Injection Services
Have you been prescribed an injectable from your doctor? Would you rather not inject it yourself?
Our pharmacists are trained to administer intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) injections.
It frequently happens that patients are discharged home from hospital are required to administer themselves a daily injection such as a blood thinners e.g. Innohep or Prolia for Osteoporosis or even Vitamin B12 injections and are not confident in self administration or are unable to get an appointment with the GP / Practice Nurse. We are happy to help you and administer the injection or train you to be come comfortable with self administration.
Who can we help?
Anyone that needs our help including those with
A fear of injections.
A fear of doing their injection wrong.
No appropriate means to safely dispose of the injection (sharps disposal).
Poor eyesight.
Dexterity problems such as arthritis or ulnar drift.
A tremor in their hand, maybe from Parkinson’s, essential tremor or anxiety.
We can assist you if any of the above applies to you. If all you need is someone to watch and help you do it right yourself that is ok also.
Ideally, you should have had your medicine dispensed with us so we know a registered prescriber has prescribed the medicine for you and we have a copy of your prescription on file. Alternatively you can get your GP / pharmacy to send us a copy of your prescription by healthmail.
Who can we not help?
We will not administer to children or young adults (under 18).
We will not administer by any other injection route except the IM or SC route.
We will not administer if we are not satisfied your prescriber is genuine and you are to be the recipient of the injection.
Is there anything else I need to know about this service?
Prior to administration you will need to complete a consent/indemnity form.
You should allow 20mins for completion of the service, which includes injection prep time, administration, and good practice observation of the patient post injection.
What is the cost?
The cost of this service is €15 for once off injectable medicines. For regular weekly or monthly administration we will negotiate a fee based on frequency
